Cultural Imperialism

According to the text book, cultural imperialism is "the process in which national cultures are overwhelmed by the importing of news and entertainment from other countries-mainly from the United States" (The Dynamics of Mass Communication, p 324). In fact, the American hegemony is omni present all over the world. This super power controls all the information. Personally, I think that this communication imperialism has both negative and positive sides. The negative side is that hegemony is synonym of monopoly and domination. Hence, receivers of information tend to be mediot meaning that they receive information without critically analyzing it.The positive side is that United States diffuses strong universal values such as democracy and human rights. Personally, I think that in order to have a fair flow of information, we should have a multi polar flow of information from both developed and developing countries so that as receivers we can have a clear overview of the world.

Assignment 3:

This text gives a clear summuary of the critical press situation in France. Indeed, this text clearly defines the problem of the state monopoly in France, the lack of freedom in the press, the unproductive result of the press and the lobbying of political parties. Personally, I found this text interesting because some of the problems that are affecting the media are occuring in Morocco; however, I did not understand why the author is criticizing Sarkozy who wants to reform the old system. The new reform will liberalize the press and will reduce the lobbying that is affecting the French Media.

Imapact on social networks in Morocco

Facebook, My Space and You Tube are a kind of social networks that are widely used by Moroccans specially among teenagers and young adult. This new way of socialization allows Moroccans to express themselves rapidely, widely and continuously. However, this new way of networks started to create some difficulties to the Moroccan government.Indeed, the Moroccan government cannot control the transmission of information. For instance, in Morocco, three months ago a person has filmed the police taking bribe from drivers. This person filmed and shared the video on Youtube. Few hours later, a huge number of persons saw the video and commented on it.
Personally, I think that this new social networks are very important for a country like Morocco with the condition to respect the sacred person of the King.

End of The Book?

In this video, Peter Grawshaw makes a compaaraison betwen electronic books and real books. He shows the similarities and differences betwen those two types of media. Even if this new technology of digital books is very efficient and practical, the traditional version of the book remains irreplacable. Moreover, e-books present some disadvantages. For instance, they can be damaged and never be used again as opposite to books which are resistant and can be preserved for long time.
Personally, I am reluctant to the idea of electronic books, may be by nostalgy, that is why I believe strongly that traditional books will never lose there originaligy, and I am sure that they will last for future generations.

Assignement 1: Old newspapers get online launch

The initiative taken by the giant Google to make newsprint "searchable, discoverable and accessible online” will have a positive impact for both newspapers publishers and readers. In fact, thanks to this new initiative, the newspapers publishers will make more profit by the means of advertisement In addition; they will form a new generation of journalists. Meanwhile, thanks to this accessibility, readers will have access to relevant and credible information in an easy and accessible way, and in a short time.
Personally, I am persuaded that this initiative marks a new way to read and get access to newspapers since it saves time and stores valuable data
